Are you and your significant other failing to connect? Are you arguing about the same topics over and over, without reaching a resolution? Can you feel resentment building between you and your spouse or partner? Have you lost trust in your significant other as a result of infidelity or a lack of communication? Are you to the point where you’re considering ending the relationship?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, couples therapy can help.

How does couples therapy work?

Couples therapy is a process through which you and your partner can learn to express and better understand both of your emotional needs. With the therapist as a mediator and facilitator, your past patterns of communication and argument can be changed to be productive. The therapist’s goal is to help you feel understood and validated in your relationship.

Although books and videos can be helpful to learn exercises and skills, sometimes it’s hard to know how to apply the information to your relationship.  The process of therapy can help you understand the specific patterns that are happening in your relationship and why they are there.  Therapy can help you find new, healthier ways of relating to one another.
